The Big Give

Candis Club joined the Big Give as a Charity Champion in 2010 in order to support a wider range of charities. Here we look at how the Christmas Challenge collaboration works and why this partnership is so important to ensure that our charitable donations go as far as possible and do as much good as possible…

HOW IT WORKS

Over £150m has been raised via the Big Give since 2008. Candis Club joined the incentive in 2010 as a Charity Champion because we immediately saw the value in working closely with an organisation with the same ideology – as we and our subscribers want to support health-related charities with the opportunity to double donations through an innovative match-funding campaign. We have also been able to support some of the fantastic smaller charities focusing on truly worthwhile causes.

Each month, we highlight a charity to give it the opportunity to get its message across and inform readers how it works by featuring a case study of a person or a family who have benefited from its help and services. We also hear from a member of its team who explains what working for the charity means to them. Uplifting, inspiring and sometimes heartbreaking, the feature provides a real insight into how the charity’s money is spent and readers can learn about the forthcoming projects and the plans the charity has for the money it has raised.

BIG GIVE 2024: GREAT RESULTS WITH MATCH-FUNDING

This years’ campaign runs from 3 – 10 December and utilises the “Pledge Model” of match funding which offers supporters of participating charities the chance to have their DONATIONS DOUBLED from a combined match-funding pot. This pot comprises pledges, which the charity secures, and Charity Champion funds from Big Give’s funding partners. This innovative way of match-funding ensures Big Give can support a large variety of charities in a single campaign.

WANT TO APPLY?

Registered charities must apply to a campaign and have their application assessed by Big Give. If successful, charities are awarded a sum of match-funding, which is ring-fenced for their organisation. Charities receive up to 25 per cent of their match-funding amount from a Big Give Champion funder, provided they have 25 per cent in ‘Pledges’ secured from their own major donors. This 50 per cent is then unlocked by public donations given through Big Give’s online funding platform during the campaign week.

It’s free to register your charity. Simply go to biggive.org and select the ‘Charity login’ for more details. Closing date for the 2024 Christmas challenge is 5 July 2024.
