TIPS ON HOW TO BEAT A HEAT WAVE

By Dr Hilary Jones, Medical Advisor to FreshWipes

In hot weather, people tend to sweat more as the body tries to cool down. Sweat creates a moist environment on the skin, providing a breeding ground for bacteria. Bacteria naturally present on the skin can multiply more rapidly in these conditions, potentially leading to skin infections or body odour. To mitigate the risks associated with bacterial growth in hot weather, it’s essential to practise good hygiene, such as frequent handwashing, and staying hydrated.

Additionally, choose clothing to suit your activity, for example choose breathable natural fabrics, such as cotton, wool and silk. Wearing breathable clothing and using antiperspirants or deodorants can help reduce bacterial growth on the skin. Maintaining clean living environments and regularly sanitising surfaces can also help minimise bacterial proliferation, especially during periods of hot weather.

I also recommend FreshWipes Body Wipes which contain chlorhexidine as the active ingredient to neutralise the bacteria responsible for body odour. These innovative eco-friendly wipes contain antibacterial ingredients proven to conveniently clean from top to toe, wiping away body odour, sweat and bacteria in seconds.
