HOW TO OPTIMISE YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING

By Dr Naomi Newman-Beinart, Psychologist and Nutritionist

Looking after your mental wellbeing doesn’t have to mean a complete lifestyle overhaul. It’s all about the small, everyday habits that often have the most significant impact.

Start with movement. Even a 20-minute walk can lift your mood and boost mental clarity.

Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins—your natural feel-good chemicals—and helps lower stress levels. Just getting outside and moving your body can be incredibly grounding, even if that means a walk around the garden or wherever you can. Get some of your favourite music on your headphones or find a friend to join you on your morning walk.

What you eat has a huge effect on how you feel.

A colourful, whole food diet rich in healthy fats, fibre and omega-3s supports brain health and emotional balance. Try adding flaxseeds, walnuts, or oily fish into your meals. Collagen is also vital for supporting healthy joints and skin as you age. I recommend adding Correxiko marine collagen powder (RRP £39.95) to drinks each day.

Five minutes of mindfulness each day can help reset your mind.

Simple breathing exercises or short guided meditations, using apps like Calm or Insight Timer, can help reduce feelings of overwhelm and encourage more positive thinking patterns.

Don’t underestimate the power of hydration.

Even slight dehydration can affect your mood, energy, and focus. I always recommend adding a few drops of elete Electrolyte to your water each day. It helps replace essential minerals and supports proper hydration, without any sugar or additives.

Optimising mental wellbeing is all about finding what works for you and doing it consistently. Start small, and be kind to yourself.
