DIY HALLOWEEN COSTUME IDEAS

With Halloween just around the corner, there’s no need to splash out on expensive costumes that’ll end up in the bin. In the UK we throw away around 7 million items every year so why not create a fabulous, eco-friendly outfit using items you already have at home? Great for the planet and your bank balance!
First up, raid your wardrobe. An old black dress or a suit can transform you into a wicked witch, a vampire or a cat. If you are feeling creative, add a few tassels from hankies, tissues or cotton wool and you are a clown!
Add a homemade cape (simply cut up an old bedsheet) or accessorise with a belt to cinch in your waist for a more polished look. You could also make a DIY cape from an old bedsheet, or cut some cat ears out of cardboard and attach them to a headband.
If you’ve got some black eyeliner, you can create a dramatic looks – think dark circles, whiskers or smudged lines, which are perfect for a skeleton or zombie face.
Got a flannel shirt? Go as a lumberjack…add some fake blood (ketchup works in an emergency), and you’re a zombie. Even your old bedsheets can come to the rescue – just cut eye holes and become a classic ghost.
This Halloween, get creative with what’s already in your wardrobe, and enjoy a spooky night without the environmental guilt! And don’t forget to visit the Ideal Home Show this Christmas from November 27 at the Olympia in London, where you can find out how to create the perfect Christmas outfit that is better for both the environment and your wallet.
