SIMPLE FOOD SWAP: MAYONNAISE FOR YOGHURT OR HUMMUS

It’s all too easy to add unnecessary calories to food – but you could be missing out on some tasty alternatives

Mayo is a sandwich staple and an easy-to-reach for dip, but a single tablespoon has 94 calories and is loaded with fat. Try swapping it out for hummus, at just 25 calories a tablespoon, less fat, more flavour and far more protein, calcium and fibre, but a similar creamy consistency. It’s ideal for sandwiches and the perfect dip for crudités.

If a recipe calls for mayo, Greek yoghurt is a great alternative at 60 calories per tablespoon. Pick live yoghurt for extra-healthy probiotics alongside calcium and protein. Add a swirl of sriracha spicy sauce, some garlic powder, salt and a squeeze of lemon to a bowl of yoghurt for a delicious dip to enjoy with chopped veggies.
