SIMPLE FOOD SWAP: BEANS IN MASH
Boost the nutritional value of your humble mashed potato with beans – take your pick for a healthier alternative

Mash is delicious but it’s low in muscle-building protein and, unless you mash the skin, short on filling fibre too. Try white bean mash instead of mashed potatoes to boost both. Replace half or all of your potato with cannellini or butter beans. Tip them straight into the pan from the tin, add some high protein yoghurt to give a creamy texture and taste, generously season with salt and pepper, add a little butter and blend using a hand blender. Just 100g or 3.5oz of butter beans will give you 7g of fibre and 8g of protein.
