NEW THOUGHTS ON CAFFEINE
According to new research a cup of coffee a day may be surprisingly good for your heart

If you have atrial fibrillation (AFib), you’ve probably been told to avoid caffeine. AFib is a dangerous heart rhythm condition where the top chambers of the heart quiver instead of beating steadily. This can cause blood to pool and form clots, making people five times more likely to have a stroke, which is often severe. High blood pressure is a major risk factor, raising the chance of AFib by 72%, and the condition has surged 70% in England over the last 20 years.
But here’s a surprising twist: a new randomised trial found that adults with persistent AFib who drank one cup of caffeinated coffee daily actually lowered their risk of AFib recurrence by 39% over six months. Researchers suggest coffee’s anti-inflammatory compounds, mild blood pressure effects, and even small boosts in activity may play a role.
You should always check with your doctor, but the research suggests that even for AFib patients, that morning cup might not need to be off-limits.
