SIMPLE FOOD SWAP: MAYONNAISE

Emma Shafqat at dietitianwithadifference.co.uk suggests swapping mayonnaise or oily, processed salad dressings for a yummy, ranch-style homemade dressing made with avocado. It will cling to leaves for extra flavour, is particularly good with chicken and the unsaturated fats and fibre are good for your heart. You might be surprised to know that a single avocado contains 14g of fibre, which is half the daily recommended intake.

She says, “Avocado It gives a creamy texture, adds healthy fats and vitamins and reduces saturated fats. It also tastes delicious. Using a mini food blender or stick blender, puree a ripe avocado with lemon juice and a splash of water until you achieve the texture you prefer. You can add black pepper, garlic and herbs for extra flavour.”
