FINDING CALM IN THE CHAOS

Jen Mazur, yoga teacher and founder of Mums’ Yoga Club, discusses how yoga helps mums reconnect

Motherhood can often feel like an endless rush—whether it’s school runs, constant to-do lists, or navigating the emotional ups and downs. In the midst of it all, it’s easy to lose sight of your own needs and what truly matters to you. That’s why I started Mums’ Yoga Club, so mums could have a space to find some calm and support through motherhood.

You’re probably aware that yoga has many physical benefits but more than just a physical practice, yoga offers you the stillness and space to think clearly and reconnect with yourself, which, in a world of endless distractions, is much needed.

One of my students, Laura, found herself struggling with the overwhelming demands of motherhood. She was constantly on the go, feeling like she was never truly present, and feeling like she was living in reactive mode too often. Through yoga, she began to find moments of calm that allowed her to pause, breathe, and reset. It wasn’t about “doing it all”; it was about taking time to reflect on what kind of mother she wanted to be, and how she could show up for herself and her family in a more grounded, intentional way.

The stillness that yoga offers allows us to quiet the mind and soothe our nervous system. By calming the mind and body, we can think more clearly, reminding ourselves of what’s truly important. These moments of peace can help us to not only cope with the challenges of motherhood but also to thrive within them, responding with more patience, love, and compassion.

In motherhood, we often feel the need to do more, but sometimes, the best thing we can do is simply be. Yoga offers that gentle reminder, helping us to show up as the mothers we want to be—balanced, mindful, and connected to our deeper selves.
